Hello my friends,
The year 2023 is fully underway and it has had an excellent start with storytelling. Storytellers from Missouri and beyond met in Nevada, MO for the 30 th Annual Chicken Festival with River and Prairie Storyweavers as host. Thanks to the festival, MO-TELL was able to hold its annual membership meeting at the same time and place, yay!
At the meeting, our new board member, Jackie Wright, was introduced. She will be serving as treasurer this year. Our membership has increased this year. Our rolls include several Life- time members. I love that. We are storytellers for life.
This month stories will be told in honor of the US Presidents, Black History and Valentines Day, just to name a few. And so the stories of love and history continue. There will be many storytelling festivals this year and so many of them will be in person. The next one in Missouri is the MRRL Storytelling Festival in Jefferson City, MO, in March, produced by the library.
George Owens Nature Center will feature storytellers for their Campfire Series beginning in March and running through the Fall. The big Tejas Storytelling Festival is in March in Denton, TX. The Kansas Storytelling Festival in Downs, KS is coming up in April. Do not forget the Liars Contest with MO-TELL in St. Louis, MO in July. St. Louis will hold their festival in the Fall.
Libraries all over the country will invite storytellers to tell for their summer reading programs. Missouri state parks are gearing up for another year of storytelling all over our beautiful state.
Watch for the announcements of all these events. Storytelling is everywhere.
Please keep telling your tales.
Love to you all,
Joyce Slater
