Join veteran storytellers Joyce Slater and Sue Hinkel for this interactive workshop which will introduce you to the basics of storytelling. How do you find good stories to tell? How do you get started telling your stories in live performance? If you’ve already started telling stories, what’s the next step you can take to improve your storytelling? Joyce and Sue will answer these questions and many more in this 90-minute workshop (sponsored by MO-TELL).

11:00AM – 12:00PM Open Mic Story Swap  Come and share a story (8 minutes or less) in a safe, supportive environment. No prior storytelling experience necessary (sponsored by MO-TELL).

12:00PM – 1:30PM Showing and Telling: An Advanced Workshop for Writers and Storytellers with Anthony Clark Agents and editors frequently advise writers to show and not tell, but every story has “told” parts and “shown” parts. How do you decide which parts to tell in summary form and which to dramatize? Writer and Storyteller Anthony Clark facilitates this 90-minute workshop which focuses on story telling versus story showing. Learn some tips for dramatizing your story, and for deciding which parts to dramatize. Also, learn how story “showing” applies to storytellers.  (Designed for experienced writers and storytellers but beginners are also welcome.)

2:00PM – 4:15PM Finals of the Missouri State Liars Contest Come cheer on your favorite liars as they compete for cash prizes and title of Best Liar in the Show-Me State for 2017. For contest details visit www.mo-tell.org<http://www.mo-tell.org>.
